Holmby Hills

Holmby Hills A prestigious neighborhood in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, this area is known for its classic East Coast style homes, rolling hill estates, wide streets lined by majestic towering trees, and custom Old World street lamps specifically designed for this area. In fact, the developer, Arthur Lett, who bought the land here for $100 an acre, took the name from the English hamlet of his birth: Holdenby. When Sunset Boulevard was expanded into a four-lane throughfare, Holmby Hills was split into North and South sections. Letts’ master plan guaranteed large lot sizes and ensured that utility wires were buried beneath the tree-lined streets to help preserve the landscape. For the most part, Little Holmby survives in its original form. On average, homes are 3,000 to 4,000 square feet on generous lots and range in price from $2 million to $4 million. In the estate section of Holmby Hills (east of Beverly Glen Boulevard) a 2000 census found this area to have the highest mean income in the United States: $780,925. Holmby Hills Estates, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills form the Platinum Triangle of Los Angeles, home to the priciest and most exclusive neighborhoods in the United States.

Boundaries: Holmby Hills is bordered on the East by the City of Beverly Hills, on the West by Westwood, the Wilshire Corridor on the south and Bel Air on the north.
