Whitley Heights
Whitley Heights This Hollywood residential neighborhood was the first celebrity community in Los Angeles and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Named after Hobart Johnston Whitley, the “Father of Hollywood, this well-preserved Old Hollywood neighborhood is made up of mostly Mediterranean multilevel homes ranging in size from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet overlooking the Hollywood district landmarks of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Academy Awards Theatre and the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater. The neighborhood was bisected when the Hollywood Freeway was built after World War II.
Boundaries: The neighborhood is roughly bordered on the north and east by Cahuenga Boulevard, on the west by Highland Avenue, and on the south by Franklin Avenue.
Past and Present Celebrity Residents: Rudolph Valentino, Barbara Stanwyck, W.C. Fields, Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard, William Powell, Tyrone Power, Gloria Swanson, Rosalind Russell, Judy Garland, and Marlene Dietrich.
